Gilad A Filmar, MD
Urogynecology Fellow

Gilad A Filmar, MD

Dr. Gilad Filmar is currently a Fellow in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery (“Urogynecology”) at the Women’s Pelvic Health & Continence Center. He is under the mentorship of the Center’s Fellowship Director - Dr. Peter Lotze.

Dr Filmar graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel in 2002. He then served as a doctor for 5 years in the Israeli Defense Force, concluding a distinguished tour of duty in 2007 with the rank of Captain. Along with his wife and two children, he moved to the United States after he was offered a position in the prestigious OB/GYN residency program at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City – a residency program recognized nationally for its emphasis on women’s health and Urogynecology.

Dr Filmar’s interest in Urogynecology began early in his career during medical school, after spending several months working alongside a prominent Israeli urogynecologist.  He immediately recognized the specialty’s benefit to helping women suffering with urogynecologic disorders, including prolapse, incontinence, urinary tract infections, interstitial cystitis, and pelvic muscular dysfunction.

In his residency, he continued his work in this intriguing and complex medical specialty. He surrounded himself with experts in general gynecology, urology, and Urogynecology. He gained a deeper understanding of pelvic anatomy and its relation to a patient’s symptoms. His exposure to a diversity of medical specialties afforded him numerous opportunities to learn various treatment techniques – both in the operating room as well as in the office.  He was recognized by the Lenox Hill Hospital faculty as an outstanding resident.  Following graduation, he and his family moved to Houston where he currently continues his education through his Fellowship here at the Women’s Pelvic Health & Continence Center, under the mentorship of Dr. Lotze.

Dr Filmar evaluates patients under the guidance of Dr. Lotze. He specializes in the evaluation and treatment of female pelvic health and urinary incontinence. Areas of interest include prolapse (e.g. cystocele, rectocele, uterine / vaginal prolapse), complaints of urinary incontinence, irritative bladder symptoms (frequency, urgency), urinary retention, recurrent bladder infections, and painful bladder syndrome (also called Interstitial Cystitis). Patient testing – when indicated – may include flexible cystoscopy and multichannel urodynamics. Treatment options including medical and surgical management are thoroughly reviewed with each patient. Emphasis is placed on the patient pursuing treatment options she feels are appropriate for her quality of life.

Outside of his medical pursuits, Dr. Filmar enjoys running. He lives in Houston with his wife Noa and two kids Omer and Johnathan.

Surgeries are performed with Dr Lotze as the primary surgeon.  Surgical procedures available are (Including but not limited to):

  • Laparoscopic and vaginal hysterectomy
  • Laparoscopic suspension surgery of the uterus, vagina and bladder
  • Laparoscopic urinary incontinence surgery
